Each month, Little League® International is providing a quick look at important information and events for the month ahead. We invite you to review and share with your colleagues and friends. Another great resource for keeping up to date on Little League’s latest training and educational efforts is Little League University. Designed for volunteers, league and District Administrators, coaches, and parents, this free website is a wonderful portal for experiencing and learning about the Little League.
NEW TO 2017: Local Leagues Required to Conduct Background Checks on All Volunteers
Please remember to conduct national criminal background checks, in addition to a search of the Department of Justice National Sex Offender Registry, for each volunteer with regular service to the league or repetitive access to children. Starting in 2017, Little League’s official regulations have been revised to state that all leagues in the United States are required to conduct background checks that utilize the First Advantage Screening Solutions program provided by Little League International, or another provider that is comparable to First Advantage in accessing background check records for sex offender registry data and criminal records. For those leagues that have satisfied this regulation in past seasons by utilizing First Advantage, there are not additional expectations, since the First Advantage background check currently meets that standard. For more information, including how to conduct the mandatory background checks, visit LittleLeague.org/ChildProtection.
Little League University Launches New Educational Videos
This February, Little League University began a series of free educational videos to assist local league volunteers during their day-to-day operations. The first video of the series helps local leagues better understand Establishing Player Eligibility in a Local League. Additional educational videos on background checks, new rule changes, and more will be available on LittleLeagueU.org throughout the course of the year.
Little League Establishes Bat Information Landing Page to Answer Questions
With the implementation of the new USA Baseball Bat Standard in 2018, Little League® International has assembled an online resource page dedicated to baseball bat information. The landing page, found at LittleLeague.org/BatInfo, includes the latest bat information, current Little League Baseball rules and regulations governing bats, definition of terms, the moratorium on the use of composite bats, and a series of frequently asked questions, with answers and licensed bat lists.
